  • Originally hired to post payments and assist the office manager as the practice grew. Moved into managing the billing process for the Duluth, GA office while she took over the Lawrenceville, GA office in late 2008. In September 2009, became the Marketing Representative for both locations.
  • Became responsible for all claims from initial therapist coding to posting of final payments and case closure. Monitored payment trends and make recommendations for policy changes to optimize reimbursement. Assisted patients with their insurance companies and in paying for services not covered by insurance. Reviewed all insurance contracts for negotiable areas and assisted with the negotiation, which continues to present.
  • Most recent special project was assessing and updating our server and computers in preparation for a move to an EMR. Made recommendations for all hardware and software products needed to successfully go live" within 3 months of the decision on which EMR software would be chosen. Instrumental in problem solving network, user and hardware issues during and since full roll out.
  • Currently the system administrator for the EMR. Responsible for community wide marketing campaigns for both locations. Assist with physician level marketing. Maintain Twitter account for physician education and Facebook account for patient contact. Also responsible for bi-weekly newsletter distribution and the statistics related to click through for it and other online activities.

Billing Manager and prn MA
  • Initially began as MA when staff needed vacation or while temporary help necessary when someone left.
  • Became responsible for billing of office visits, cardiac ultrasounds done on-site and all other in-office procedures. Advised physicians and MAs on correct coding guidelines. Posted payments from insurance companies and appealed rejections / underpayments. Re-negotiated several contracts with insurance companies. In charge of converting to paperless billing through EMR, paperless EOBs through ERA and EFT.
  • Actively communicated with accountants and consultants regarding Quickbooks and the 401K plan. Advised the management team regarding current financial status, potential growth opportunities and assisted in the evaluation of such. Ultimately assisted the practice in choosing to outsource the billing department as a cost cutting measure in late 2007.
 
South Carolina Department of Mental Health, Anderson, SCOctober, 1997 to November, 1998
Nursing Supervisor
  • Responsible for coordinating mental health care for a 4 house and 6 apartment (60 consumer capacity) residential program to assist the chronically mentally ill to re-enter society. Most residents had come from the state mental health hospitals and had schizophrenia or bipolar disorder with multiple co-morbidities. We provided an 8 bed crisis unit as well, to prevent admissions from overnight issues until a case manager could assess and plan for the patient in the morning.
  • Managed a staff of 4 "house assistants" and 6-10 TLC (toward local care) counselors. Assisted the staff psychiatrist with evaluations and medication monitoring / changes. Provided consulting services and education to the staff of the residential facility, focusing on the night shift, in crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Left to become a full time mother.
 
Anderson Area Medical Center, Wellspring, Anderson, SCJanuary, 1997 to October, 1997
Staff Nurse / Utilization Reviewer
  • Staff Nurse on Adult Alcohol and Addictions Unit. Assisted in medical detox, performed initial assessments including EKGs and venipucture on acutely intoxicated patients. Teaching done regarding assertiveness, biological basis of addiction and stress relief through relaxation techniques.
  • Provided assistance to and vacation coverage for the full time UR staff. Obtained authorizations for continued hospitalization and outpatient treatment as recommended by the physician.
  • Left for a management level position with the State of South Carolina.

  • UR nurse for the Adult and Addictions units. Instituted a standardized format to team meetings which resulted in increasing approved inpatient days.
  • Left for a job much closer to home.
